Wainfleet is the largest township in the Region of Niagara. This agricultural community, which turned 150 in the year 2000, is bordered by Lake Erie on the south and the Welland River on the north. There are miles of beaches for fantastic fishing and boating, conservation areas, excellent campgrounds and incredible vistas. A feeder canal, no longer in use, hosts various species of birds, plants and other wildlife. Golf courses, cross country skiing and hiking trails are scattered throughout the township.

Many of the area’s 6,200 residents live in the Village of Wainfleet. Originally established in the 1820’s, historic signposts remain. Burnaby in the south half of Wainfleet maintained the tiny size it had in the early days of settlement.
In the summer months the lake shore has become a major vacation destination for beach goers and cottagers.
