Most practices in Niagara are Family Health Groups offering Fee for Service payment models. There are also Family Health Teams and Fee For Service solo practitioners. We also offer Community Health Centres as an option for employment. The CHC is located in Welland at this time. Fort Erie and Port Colborne have just opened their Community Health Centre and are seeking physicians. St. Catharines and Niagara Falls will be opening their CHC's in 2009.
The on call schedule is dependent upon the size of the group that you are in. Overhead expenses vary by office and group. The average expense seems to be 25% -30%.
Family Physicians have a range of patients from 1200 to 5000 per physician.
The average number of patients seen a day varies by physician as well. Some see 30 a day while others see 60-70.
Hospital privileges are not required by most communities in Niagara although there are some communities where it is required.
Family physicians are able to work in the Emergency Departments with the Niagara Health System and the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
