The Niagara Physician Recruitment and Retention Program was established in 2001 to promote family practice opportunities and to attract and retain physicians in Niagara.  The program works in collaboration with the municipalities of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, Thorold, Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Port Colborne, Wainfleet, Pelham, Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln and operates under the Niagara Region Public Health, Organizational and Foundational Standards Division.

The Niagara Physician Recruiter is an active member of the Canadian Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (CASPR) and continues to set the bar high with national best practices.  We work in conjunction with other recruiters in the province to ensure that our approach is candidate focused, connecting physicians to their ideal practice setting and desired community.

Since the rebrand of the program in 2011, there have been over 70 new family physicians to Niagara.  With over 30% of the family doctors in the area over 60 years of age, it has been our priority to develop succession planning strategies to support primary care renewal and to identify opportunities for graduates.
